01 / The work
Most personal computers have converged on a small set of forms and assumptions. That made them dependable, but it also made them feel finished. Lab US starts from the belief that the computer is still creative territory.
We combine excellent existing parts, opinionated software, unusual enclosures, and original ideas into machines with a point of view. Some become products. Some stay experiments. All of them help us ask better questions.
02 / The workshop
Lab US works from California's Mojave Desert, where there is room to prototype, assemble, test, revise, and occasionally make something a little strange. Complete Lab US computers leave the workshop assembled and tested.
The workshop is deliberately open to more than conventional computer hardware. We want to work with metal, wood, ceramics, textiles, small mechanisms, new interfaces, and whatever else a useful machine might ask for.
